IND W vs IRE W: The Indian women’s cricket team created an unbeatable 2-0 lead over Ireland in the three-match ODI series when they defeated them by 116 runs at the second ODI, a stunning feat led by Jemima Rodrigues. Rodrigues scored her first-ever ODI century supported well by top-order performances and impeccable bowling. India strengthened their lead in this series by winning the second ODI. Jemima Rodrigues’ Maiden ODI Century
Jemima Rodrigues was the clear standout for this match as she scored a remarkable 102 off 91 deliveries. It marked her first hundred in ODI cricket and was much-awaited by a talented batter. She waited to achieve the mark for 41 matches. With remarkable composure and timing, she hit 12 boundaries while playing. She contributed to an impressive total for India at 370/5 in 50 overs.
Rodrigues is accused by the opponent of going gung-ho as she and Harleen Deol added 183 runs for the third wicket, which became the basis for India’s total. She herself romped back with 89 off 84 balls, providing top-class support to Rodrigues while they made a dominating score. Rodrigues’ century was celebrated with much joy as she said she was relieved and happy, adding that she was glad to bat at number four and stay till the end of the innings. Her celebration after the milestone included a playful guitar strum with her bat, a moment of joy that captured her excitement.
Strong Contributions from Top Order
The top order had laid a fine foundation for the innings, led by captain Smriti Mandhana and aggressive knocks from her and Pratika Rawal. Mandhana set the tone for the game with a breezy 73 runs off 54 balls as India got a flying start and she and Pratika Rawal put up an opening partnership of 156 runs, with the latter scoring 67 off 60 balls. This partnership not only gave India momentum but also kept the scoreboard ticking at a brisk pace.
The Indian women made the most of the weaker Irish bowling attack, as they collected a total of 44 boundaries and three sixes in their innings. This aggressive display of batting, coupled with the consistent contributions from Rodrigues and Deol, ensured that India reached a commanding total of 370/5 in their 50 overs.
Ireland Response and India’s Dominant Bowling
Chasing a very intimidating target, the response of Ireland was quite mellow. The Indian bowlers kept on keeping the pressure intact throughout the innings. The key contributions came through Deepti Sharma and Priya Mishra with the ball. The veteran of the game, Deepti, had taken 3 wickets for just 37 runs. The other player Priya Mishra also had been able to take 2 wickets for 53 runs.
Ireland’s batting could not face India’s spinners and did not form any partnership. The only silver lining for Ireland was Christina Coulter Reilly, who played a gritty knock of 80 runs. She lacked support from the other end, and the team was never in contention to chase down the target. The Irish batsmen were more concerned with getting through the entire 50 overs rather than playing aggressively and ended up scoring 254/7.

Although Ireland’s bowlers gave a very good fight in terms of the wickets they were able to take, it was a medium pacer who helped take some crucial wickets in the hands of Arlene Kelly and Orla Prendergast. Kelly restricted the scoring rate well, while Prendergast bowled tight lines. Still, India’s top order proved to be too much for the bowlers to defend when Ireland was left to deal with the required run rate.
