History of FIBA Asia Cup

China is the most successful team in FIBA Asia Cup history, having won the tournament 16 times. Their dominance is built on a combination of size, skill, and a well-developed basketball system that has consistently produced top-tier talent.

They won the championship in 1975, 1977, 1979, 1981, 1983, 1985, 1987, 1989, 1991, 1993, 1995, 1999, 2001, 2003, 2005, 2015 meaning that they have won more than 50% of the tournaments that have taken place and have stamped their supremacy on the tournament.

The FIBA Asia Cup, Asia’s continental basketball competition, will inaugurate its 31st edition in Saudi Arabia. FIBA Asia will organize the competition.

After hosting the 1997 edition, Saudi Arabia will be hosting the event again and this edition will happen from August 5th to August 17th, 2025.

India’s Hopes for qualifying for FIBA Asia Cup

The Indian men’s basketball team did not make it straight to the main event after losing 81-61 to Qatar in their last Group E game of the second round of the FIBA Asia Cup 2025 Qualifiers on Monday.

Despite being equal with Kazakhstan in last position on seven points, the defeat meant that India placed third in their group. India will now play in a different qualifying competition to fight for the final four berths in the 2025 FIBA Asia Cup.
