Team India host world champions, Australia in the three-match home series beginning on Tuesday. India is coming into the series after failing to qualify for the final of the Asia Cup. Rohit Sharma and his men will have a point or two to prove against a strong opponent led by Aaron Finch. They will try to find an ideal combination, especially in the middle order.

Skipper Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul will don the role of openers for team India. Virat Kohli, who had a tremendous run in the Asia Cup, will come to bat at number three. Team may try Virat in the opening role as well, in some games.

India look for an ideal combination

Team India’s major issue lies in the middle order. The absence of Ravindra Jadeja means India will miss an all-rounder. They are also short of a left-hander batter. Meanwhile, Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya will grab the number four and five positions, respectively.

There is a matchup between Rishabh Pant and Dinesh Karthik for the wicket-keeper slot. Pant, being a left-hander, gives an advantage for him in the selection. However, if the team goes for a finisher, Karthik will get the nod ahead of Pant. If India play both Pandya and Jadeja’s replacement, Axar Patel, they will have an extra bowling option. Meanwhile, Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, and Harshal Patel may play as pacers.Yuzvendra Chahal will take the spinner’s spot.

Focus on Finch, David

Australians arrived in India without their main players David Warner, Mitchell Starc, Marcus Stoinis, and Mitchell Marsh. The focus will be on the out-of-form batter, Aaron Finch, who recently retired from the ODIs. Meanwhile, the power hitter, Tim David, who played international cricket for Singapore, is all set to make his debut.

The match will start in Mohali at 7.30 pm IST.
