India tour of Sri Lanka: Shikhar Dhawan’s past record in ODI on Lankan soil

India limited-overs opener Shikhar Dhawan will be back in action on 18th July. He is the captain who will lead his team for the first ODI against Sri Lanka at Premadasa Stadium Colombo. The Southpaw will be captaining this Indian side for the first time. This Indian team has a combination of talented young players as well as experienced players in the side. Shikhar Dhawan wants to lead to create examples and encourage his team to move forward.

He will be under the guidance of batting legend Rahul Dravid, the head coach of this Indian team in Sri Lanka. It will be Shikhar Dhawan’s second ODI series on Lankan soil. The ‘Men in Blue’ prepare for the upcoming challenge.  Dhawan’s past performances in Sri Lanka against the host in the ODI series.

Both teams were taking part in a five-match ODI series in Sri Lanka. In the first innings itself, he smashed 132 runs off just 90 balls. This innings of his stirred India to a nine-wicket win. He followed it up with another good inning of 49 runs, where India won by 3 wickets in hand. In the third ODI, he was bowled by Lasith Malinga for just five runs. But India still managed to win the ODI by six wickets. Consecutive failure’s for Shikhar Dhawan as he managed to get only four runs in the fourth ODI. But still, India cruised 168 runs win.

India eventually won that series 5-0 after winning the final ODI by six wickets. Dhawan did not feature in the final ODI as Ajinkya Rahane opened with Rohit Sharma in the last ODI. Shikhar Dhawan still has staggering records in Sri Lanka as he averages 63.33 with the bat.
