The ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 is currently underway. The Women in Blue are all set to face the Netherlands in a Group A clash. Both sides will face each other for the first time in T20Is, while this clash will also be their first-ever International faceoff since 2000.

Harmanpreet Kaur-led India started their Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 on an impressive note. India w secured a thrilling 64-run win over Pakistan at the Edgbaston Cricket Ground in Birmingham. Deepti Sharma won the player of the match as she returned with impressive figures of 5/10 in her four overs. Deepti was well supported by Shree Charani, as she claimed 3 wickets and conceded 21 runs.

Coming to the batting department, India w suffered an early setback as Shefali Verma managed to score just 6. However, Smriti Mandhana steadied the innings with a brilliant 68 off 44 balls, laced with nine boundaries and two sixes. Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur added crucial 36 runs, while star wicketkeeper batter Richa Ghosh played an impressive knock, scoring 34 off 17 balls.

The Netherlands, meanwhile, started its campaign on a shaky note. The Netherlands suffered a 6-wicket defeat at the hands of Bangladesh Women. Coming in to bat first, the Netherlands scored just 138 runs in their 20 overs. Bangladesh easily chased down the target in 19.1 overs, thanks to Juairiya Ferdous, who smashed a 33-ball fifty, which featured seven fours and two sixes.

Shefali Verma hasn’t looked good with the bat since the beginning of this year. She scored 259 runs in 10 games, followed by 266 runs in 12 T20Is at an average of 22.16, but at a strike rate of 143.01. She failed to perform in the World Cup opener against Pakistan women. Shefali will be eager to bounce back against the Netherlands as the T20 World Cup unfolds.

Vice-captain Smriti Mandhana, who played a brilliant knock of 68 off 44 balls, laced with nine boundaries and two sixes, in the campaign opener against Pakistan women, will once again anchor India’s innings. Mandhana will open the innings alongside Shefali Verma. Both the openers will aim to give India a good start with the bat.  

Middle Order: Jemimah Rodrigues, Harmanpreet Kaur, and Bharti Fulmali

Jemimah Rodrigues and Harmanpreet Kaur will form the backbone of India’s middle order. Jemimah’s ability to rotate strike and Harmanpreet’s experience in handling pressure situations make them key players. They will be responsible for stabilizing the innings if early wickets fall.
