Experience all-rounder Nilakshika Silva took a key part in Sri Lanka’s pursuit, posting a furious 56 off 33. Her knock consisted of three sixes and five fours, steadying the middle order and seeing Sri Lanka over the line for the successful pursuit of India’s target. With Silva’s dismissal, Anushka Sanjeewani (23*) and Sugandika Kumari (19*) knocked the win away with an unscaled 40-run eighth wicket stand.

India compiled a battling total of 275/9 after being sent in to bat. Wicket-keeper batter Richa Ghosh top-scored with 58 runs off 48 balls – five fours and three sixes. Jemimah Rodrigues (37), Pratika Rawal (35), and captain Harmanpreet Kaur (30) also contributed, but none was able to convert a start to a big total and India fell short of posting a big total.

Sri Lanka’s Bowling: Chamari Athapaththu and Sugandika Kumari in Charge

Sri Lanka’s bowlers were able to keep the Indian batsmen to a minimum, as well. Both Captain Chamari Athapaththu and Sugandika Kumari only got 3 wickets each and were a constant pressure credit to India’s innings. The two performed tight bowling plays that were essential to keeping India at less than 300 runs.

India, though with this defeat, is a strong chance winner given their previous triumphs in the tournament. The series is critical for all teams preparing for the 2025 Women’s Cricket World Cup.
