Virat Kohli Gets Surprise Tribute From Indian Army’s DGMO During Operation Sindoor Briefing

Indian Army’s DGMO paid tribute to Virat Kohli during ‘Operation Sindoor’ press briefing

Virat Kohli announced his retirement from Test cricket on 12th May 2025, after which a series of tributes to him began. Many big names of the cricket world saluted Kohli’s Test career, including his old coach Ravi Shastri, RCB’s former teammate AB de Villiers, and ICC chairman Jay Shah.

Indian Army’s DGMO, Lieutenant General Rajiv Ghai, also paid tribute to Virat Kohli. During the press briefing on ‘Operation Sindoor’, he said, “Just like for many Indians, he is my favourite cricketer too.” Virat Kohli played a total of 123 Test matches in which he scored a total of 9,230 runs with 30 centuries. His average in Test cricket was 46.85. Kohli was also India’s most successful Test captain, who succeeded in winning 40 out of 68 matches.

DGMO mentioned Virat Kohli while talking about Operation Sindoor

In the press briefing, Lieutenant General Ghai did not limit himself only to Virat Kohli. He also mentioned the historic Ashes rivalry between Australia and England and praised the bowling of Australia’s pace legends Jeff Thomson and Dennis Lillee.

He said, “When the match took place between England and Australia, Jeff Thomson and Dennis Lillee completely destroyed England’s batting. At that time, Australia had adopted a phrase – ‘ashes to ashes, dust to dust, if Thommo doesn’t get it, Lillee must’.”

Lieutenant General Ghai further said, “If you try to understand these layers, you will understand what I am trying to say. No matter how many layers you cross, one layer will definitely hit you.”

DGMO showed the strength of Indian Army in the success of Operation Sindoor

DGMO in his statement also stressed on the success of ‘Operation Sindoor’, which was executed by Indian armed forces in response to terrorist attacks in Pahalgam of Jammu and Kashmir last month. In this operation, the Indian Army destroyed many terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir.

Apart from this, many bases of the Pakistan Air Force were also attacked. The Indian Army also caused significant damage to Pakistan’s air defence and radar systems, due to which Lahore’s military infrastructure was completely neutralised. ‘Operation Sindoor’ is considered a strategic success for the Indian Armed Forces.
