Veteran India leg-spinner Piyush Chawla lost his father Pramod Kumar Chawla from COVID-19 on Monday. He took to Instagram to announce this unfortunate news. Piyush Chawla revealed that his father struggled with the deadly virus and subsequent complications and finally breathed his last on Monday.
Piyush Chawla captioned his post with a picture of his father inviting fans’ thoughts and prayers, “Today life would not have been the same without him, today I lost my pillar of strength.”
Piyush Chawla, part of the Kolkata Knight Riders team that won the IPL title in 2014, was bought by Mumbai Indians for IPL 2021 at the February 20 auction. His impressive form was suspended before the tournament due to an outbreak of COVID-19 in 4 franchises.
The 32-year-old leg-spinner was part of India’s 2011 World Cup-winning squad. However, he has not played any international matches since 2012. Piyush Chawla has also shifted his base from Uttar Pradesh to Gujarat.
Piyush Chawla’s current franchise Mumbai Indians also showed their grief on the demise of Piyush Chawla’s father.
