On June 9, 2025, Dhoni officially joined the ICC Hall of Fame. This award is given to those legends who have done something in cricket that is always remembered.
Dhoni: One Captain, Three ICC Trophies
MS Dhoni is considered the most successful white-ball captain till date. He has won not one, but three ICC trophies:
- 2007 T20 World Cup
- 2011 ODI World Cup
- 2013 Champions Trophy
And this record is not with anyone else till now.
He scored 17,266 runs in his international career, and he is the second wicketkeeper-batsman after Kumar Sangakkara to complete 10,000+ ODI runs.
What did the ICC say?
Appreciating his consistency, fitness and long career, the ICC said,
“Dhoni’s numbers reflect not just excellence but extraordinary consistency, fitness and longevity,” ICC mentioned in a statement
He made his debut in 2004. From then till retirement, he impressed everyone with his smart thinking and calm nature. On receiving the Hall of Fame award, Dhoni said:
“It is an honour to be named in the ICC Hall of Fame, which recognises the contributions of cricketers across generations and from all over the world. To have your name remembered alongside such all-time greats is a wonderful feeling. It is something that I will cherish forever.”
Till now only 11 Indian cricketers have received this award. Dhoni is only the 11th player from India who has been inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame.
