The Indian hockey team is set to tour Australia from August 15 to 21 for a four match series of senior men.

The matches will be played at the Perth Hockey Stadium.

Australia vs India: Head-to-head

The two teams recently faced each other in the FIH Pro League 2024–25 in Europe, where Australia edged India 3–2 in both legs.

However, Indian hockey team had earlier scripted a memorable 3–2 victory over the Kookaburras at the 2024 Paris Olympics — its first Olympic win over Australia since the 1972 Munich Games.

While recent encounters have been closely fought, Australia has historically held the edge in the rivalry, winning 35 of the 51 matches played between the two teams since 2013.

India hockey team has won nine times, with seven matches ending in draws.

The series will provide crucial preparation for India before the 2025 Asia Cup — scheduled in Rajgir, Bihar, from August 29 to September 7— that offers a direct qualification spot for the FIH Hockey Men’s World Cup 2026.

Here is the Indian hockey team’s squad for tour of Australia:

Goalkeepers: Krishan B Pathak, Suraj Karker.

Defenders: Sumit, Jarmanpreet Singh, Harmanpreet Singh (C), Sanjay, Amit Rohidas,Nilam Sanjeep Xess, Jugraj Singh,Poovanna C.

Midfielders: Rajinder Singh, Raj Kumar Pal Hardik Singh, Manpreet Singh, Vivek Sagar Prasad, Rabichandra Singh Moirangthem, Vishnu Kant Sing.

Forwards: Mandeep Singh, Shilanand Lakra Abhishek, Sukhjeet Singh, Dilpreet Singh,Selvam Karthi Aditya Lalage.

India has included young defender Poovanna CB in the 24-member men’s hockey team led by ace drag flicker Harmanpreet Singh for the four-match tour of Australia, beginning August 15 in Perth.

Indian hockey team chief coach Craig Fulton said: “We have brought in some younger players to give them valuable exposure and test combinations under pressure. This camp is a key part of our preparation and a chance to build individual and team momentum before competing at home.”

This assignment will serve as an exposure tour for the team ahead of the crucial Asia Cup at home in Rajgir starting August 29, which is also a World Cup Qualifier.

“We are heading to Perth, Australia to sharpen up ahead of the Asia Cup in Bihar. The focus will be on improving our physical conditioning and technical execution through quality training and warm-up matches,” the coach said.
