Indian Men’s and Women’s squads revealed for Asian Hockey 5s World Cup Qualifier 2023

The Indian Men’s and Women’s Hockey Teams for the next Asian Hockey 5s World Cup Qualifier, which will take place in Oman from August 29 to September 2 and August 25 to August 28, respectively, were announced by Hockey India on Wednesday.

Mandeep Mor will serve as the team’s captain while Mohd Raheel Moudeen will serve as the vice captain for the Indian Men’s Hockey Team.

Suraj Karkera is the team’s custodian, and the defence is made up of Jugraj Singh, Dipsan Tirkey, Manjeet, and Mandeep Mor. Maninder Singh and Mohd. Raheel Moudeen will be in the middle of the pitch, while Pawan Rajbhar and Gurjot Singh will be the attack’s leaders.

Additionally identified as backups are Prashant Kumar Chauhan, Sukhvinder, Aditya Singh and Arun Sahani.

The Indian Men’s Hockey Team Coach, Janardhana C B who will accompany the team, spoke ahead of the tournament. He said, “Our squad is well-balanced and we have plenty of talent in our team who are motivated and determined to give their best in every match and compete fiercely. With the Hockey 5s World Cup qualification at stake, the team is determined to do well.”

Navjot Kaur will serve as the captain of the Indian Women’s Hockey Team, and Jyoti will serve as the vice captain. Bansari Solanki, a custodian, is a member of the group. Akshata Abaso Dhekale, Mahima Chaudhary, and Sonia Devi Kshetrimayum will participate in the defence. Mariana Kujur, Jyoti, and Dipi Monika Toppo will play up front, with captain Navjot Kaur and Ajmina Kujur manning the midfield position.

As back-up candidates, Ritanya Sahu, Kurmapu Ramya, Nishi Yadav, and Priyanka Yadav have also been named.

The Indian Women’s Hockey Team Coach Soundarya Yendala expressed her thoughts ahead of the tournament. She said, “I am looking forward to this exciting tournament. The players are ready. We have gone about our training sessions and we feel confident. We have a lot of experience as well as young players and I feel that the tournament will bring out the best in them.”
