Indian Open Surfing Championships 2025: India’s biggest surfing event is returning to Sasihithlu Beach in Karnataka
The sixth edition of the Indian Open Surfing Championships will be held this time from 30 May to 1 June at Sasihithlu Beach in Mangalore. The Surfing Federation of India has made an official announcement, and the entire organization of the event is in the hands of Mantra Surf Club and Surfing Swami Foundation. This event is the second stop of India’s National Surfing Championship series, where the country’s top surfers will compete.
More pressure and more opportunity
After the International Surfing Festival on Varkala beach in Kerala in April 2025, now Indian Open Surfing Championships are going to be held in Karnataka. This event brings an intense competition between the best surfers from India’s east and west coasts. The results of each round decide the national rankings, hence every performance is very important.
There will be 4 categories in the Indian Open Surfing Championships 2025. Men’s Open, Women’s Open, Under 16 Boys and Girls. This platform is a great opportunity for young talent where they can reach the national level by showcasing their skills.
Asian Games tickets can be secured from this stage
In the Asian Surf Championship in the Maldives in 2024, India won two quotas for the Asian Games for the first time. Due to this, the profile of surfing has become stronger in India. Events like the Indian Open Surfing Championships are now not just a tournament but have become a chance of qualification for big platforms like the Asian Games. Surfers who perform well here will have an increased chance of qualifying for the Asian Surf Championship. That event will be the final qualifying round for the selection of the Asian Games 2026.
Everyone will be watching these surfers
Kishore Kumar, Harish Muthu, Kamali P, Ajeesh Ali, Srikanth D and Sanjay Selvamani, who shone with strong performances in last year’s Asian Surfing Championship and Maruhaba Cup, will also be in the spotlight in the Indian Open Surfing Championships. They have also won several titles at the national level. These people are now not just competitors but have become role models for those youngsters who want to make surfing their career.
Surfing’s future is in the hands of youth
Before Indian Open Surfing Championships, Grom Search event will be held at Panambur Beach in Mangalore with the aim of spotting the talent of young surfers and bringing them into a proper system of coaching and mentorship. Surfing Swami Foundation, Panambur Surfing School, Mantra Surf Club and Indica Surf School are jointly executing this initiative. The kids selected here will get professional training which will build their career and also provide a new livelihood option.
Indian Open Surfing Championships 2025 is not just an event, it has become a movement
Surfing Federation of India president Arun Vasu said that the Asian Games qualification won by Indian surfers in 2024 was a historic moment. Now when the 2026 Asian Games are going to be held in Aichi Nagoya, the intensity and level of every competition is at the next level. Mantra Surf Club director Rammohan Paranjape also said that Indian Open of Surfing is personally important for them as they have been hosting this event since the very first day.
