India’s men’s hockey team won bronze medal match against Germany 5-4 in the Olympics after 41 years
India’s men’s hockey team has scripted history in the Olympics by winning the bronze medal match against Germany in a very close encounter 5-4 on Thursday. India’s men’s hockey team who were the eight-time gold medallist in the past lost the glory that they had in the previous four decades. But India’s men’s hockey gave a comeback or resurgence in the last couple of years by winning n Olympic medal.
India’s men’s hockey team was determined to win a bronze medal, made a great memorable comeback in the history of the game. They fought back from a two-goal deficit to turn the match in their favor. We could see a lot of emotions from India’s men’s hockey team in the field which is led by Manpreet Singh and Australian coach Graham Reid witnessed the historic moment.
India’s men’s hockey team has recorded their third bronze medal in the Olympics. The other two bronze medals were won by India’s men’s hockey team in the year 1968 Mexico City and the 1972 Munich Games. It was a heart-breaking defeat for World No.5 Germany as they are very much disappointed, they couldn’t win a consecutive bronze medal. The last time the German team won a bronze was in the Rio Games.
Germany was looking very dominant in the first quarter as India took time scoring their first goal. German’s team put pressure on the Indian defense from the start of the match. They even took a lead in the second minute through Cruz. The German team started to put excess pressure on this Indian team which helped them get four penalty corners but the Indians defended it courageously this time.
India’s hockey team looked good in the second quarter as Simranjit scored a very brilliant goal. But still German’s continued their attacking game and two minutes Florian Fuch’s brought Sreejesh again into the game, saving his reverse hit from a tight angle.
The Indian defense once again committed soft errors and which resulted in two German goals in two minutes. Even though even stunned India didn’t lose hope and made a brilliant comeback soon by leveling the scores in three minutes. It was just three minutes later India secured a penalty corner and Harpreet Kaur made it into a goal in that match.
Suddenly there is a rise in the confidence in India’s men’s hockey team. They doubled their lead when Simranjeet scored a second goal of the day. But Germany got three penalty corners but failed to capitalize on the opportunity. So, in the end, Germany lost to India in the bronze medal match 5-4.
