The Indonesia Masters 2021 – 2nd round has started where one of the Men’s Singles encounters was played between India’s Srikanth Kidambi and Indonesia’s Jonatan Christie on Thursday, 18th November 2021.

The ongoing Indonesia Masters is a Super 750 Level Tournament held at the Bali International Convention Centre located at Badung Regency, Bali, Indonesia from 16th to 21st November.

Meanwhile, the tournament got upgraded from a Super 500 into a Super 750 this year.

Indonesia Masters 2021 Second Round: Kidambi does a comeback to win against Jonatan Christie

This Men’s Singles 2nd Round match was played at Court 1. India’s Srikanth Kidambi is World No. 15 whereas his opponent Indonesia’s Jonatan Christie is Ranked 8th in the world.

In the Head-to-Head Record, it is levelled at 3-3. They last met in the 2019 All England Championships where it was the Indian who emerged as the winner.

At the 2021 Indonesia Masters, Kidambi is unseeded while Christie is the 6th seed. In the Second Round encounter, Jonatan Christie, 24, won the 1st Game by 21-13. The Indonesian player dominated as he was leading by 8-1. However, in the mid-game interval, Jonatan Christie was leading by 11-5. In the latter half, Christie went from 14-11 to 19-11 and eventually won the game.

Meanwhile, in the 2nd Game, the 28-year-old Srikanth Kidambi was leading as he was 11-7. However, 5 consecutive points went Jonatan Christie’s way from 14-9 to 14-14. Then from there, it was a neck-to-neck encounter. But the Indian Srikanth Kidambi won the game by 21-18 & took the match into the decider.

However, in the 3rd Game, it was a close contest. Kidambi was leading by 11-9 in the mid-game interval. Kidambi kept the momentum, as from 14-14 he won 6 straight points 20-14. Then won the game by 21-15 & clinched the match.

As a result, Srikanth Kidambi won the match against Jonatan Christie by 13-21, 21-18, 21-15 in about 1h 02m. Kidambi has advanced into the next round – the Quarter-finals, where he will either face Prannoy H. S. or Viktor Axelsen.
