After an underwhelming couple of seasons, the Mumbai Indians (MI) will hope to put up a better show in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. After finishing at the bottom of the table last season, the franchise made plenty of additions in the IPL mega auction that was in December 2024 to strengthen their squad.
While star players like Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya form the backbone of the team, there are also a slew of international players which completes the squad in their bid for the sixth IPL trophy.
In this article, let us have a look at four international players who could be the game-changers for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2025.
Trent Boult
Trent Boult makes a return to Mumbai Indians squad for the 2025 season after a brief campaign with Rajasthan Royals. The left-arm pacer had a phenomenal stint with the Mumbai franchise previously and will look to pick up from where he had left here.
Boult’s ability to swing the new ball both ways is well known. He has the most wickets (29) in the first over of an IPL innings. He also has the most wickets (22) in the powerplay in the IPL since 2023. For his exceptional wicket taking abilities during the powerplay, Boult became a favourite for fans and was included in the majority of the fantasy 11 teams in top online cricket gaming apps and betting sites in India, where the whole nation is immersed in the T20 extravaganza for over a month. The Kiwi’s return to MI is highly anticipated as he will pair up with Jasprit Bumrah, forming one of the most lethal opening bowling duos in the league.
Will Jacks
Mumbai Indians were more than happy to welcome Will Jacks on their side after Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) chose not to exercise their RTM option on him during the mega auction.
The English cricketer had played some sensational innings for RCB last season with his all-round abilities, scoring 230 runs in just 8 matches at an average of 32.86 and also helped with 2 wickets.
Jack, known for his aggressive batting style, can open with Rohit Sharma and set the tone for the innings. Or he can come at number three where his strike rate is 143. Wherever he comes, he starts with the word go.
Mitchell Santner
Mitchell Santner has featured in five IPL seasons but has played just 18 matches so far. With Mumbai Indians, he can leverage his potential and be an asset for the team in the middle-overs, where he has picked up 41 wickets at an economy of seven in T20s since 2023. The Kiwi has 15 wickets in the IPL at an economy rate of 6.92.
Last year, the Mumbai side struggled with the absence of an overseas spinner, therefore, Santner has a crucial role to play. His ability to contribute with the bat in the lower middle order makes him an invaluable player for MI in the upcoming season.

Ryan Rickelton
Ryan Rickelton is making his IPL debut in 2025 with Mumbai Indians. He will enter the tournament with confidence having scored a colossal 259 in the Test series against Pakistan. Rickelton has the ability to make an impact at the top of the order. He could open with Rohit Sharma and help post a big total. He has showcased his credentials, having hit nearly 2,500 runs as an opener in T20s at a strike rate of 138.
The South African wicketkeeper-batter has produced phenomenal knocks for MI Cape Town in SA20. He can fill the void that has been left by the departure of Ishan Kishan from Mumbai Indians. In SA20 2024, the Proteas scored 530 at the strike rate of 173.77. He will be looking to start his IPL career on a high.
