Tamim Iqbal, the winner of the Wisden Cricketer of the Year award, has been elected as the 21st president of the BCB (Bangladesh Cricket Board). On 7th June 2026, he secured the highest votes in his favour, and at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka, he was appointed to the most powerful position in Bangladesh cricket. Tamim Iqbal was at the top of the Club Category polls with a margin of 73 votes, and he won the position unopposed.
Without any challenge, he secured the president’s position, and he will be serving a four-year term. In April, the previous body was dissolved due to corruption, and the old body was decided to be dissolved. The investigation committee also suggested making some constitutional changes for the betterment of the long-term future of Bangladesh cricket. Fahim Sinha has been elected as the vice president of the board.
Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium witnessed the election proceedings that continued throughout the day, including manual voting with electronic ballots, and Tamim Iqbal got 73 votes, while Fahima Sinha secured 66 votes.
Tamim Iqbal Long-Term Visionary Planning for Bangladesh Cricket
Tamim Iqbal stated, “There are a lot of things, loopholes, and if we all agree together (about constitutional reform), we will discuss them in the next AGM. This is not like a board of 12 or 13 people where one person says something, and it is done. We have to deal with 1972 councillors. So they also have to agree. But for the betterment of Bangladesh cricket, if any constitutional changes are needed, we will definitely discuss and consider them.”
“It is very new for me because I still have to mix with all these people. I may not know more than half of them. I met them for the first time. So give us some time, let us discuss, and then we will find out where improvements are needed.”
“I hope we can be as transparent as possible. Because I am sure I do not want any of my board members to do anything that makes us controversial. From my side and from the whole board’s side, we will try to act with full honesty. Even then, I said a while ago, I am sure we will make mistakes. We are humans; we are bound to make mistakes. But how quickly we can fix those mistakes is what I look forward to,”
Concluding his statement, he said, “I will share my plans with you step by step from time to time. Some work I have already started from the ad-hoc committee stage. Hopefully, we can complete those quickly.”
This reflects how visionary the aim of Tamim Iqbal is, and the board has a long-term plan for the improvement and promotion of Bangladesh cricket. BCB hopes that in the next four years, the image of Bangladesh cricket will improve, will be free from corruption, and become a successful cricketing nation under Tamim Iqbal’s tenure.
