The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to host the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in India. The IPL season 20219 will be played from April 9 to May 30 at six venues. The opening match of the IPL will be played between the defending champions Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). With this, the league will begin. Like every season, this time too many retired players are playing in IPL 2021. However, there are some players who could be playing their last season.
#3 MS Dhoni (CSK)
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) performed poorly in the last IPL season played in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Also, the captain of the team, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, also failed with the bat. Fans were disappointed by his performance. Last season, Dhoni was seen struggling to score runs. Dhoni returned to cricket in IPL 2020 after a long hiatus. He was able to score only 200 runs in 25 matches with an average of 25 and a poor strike rate of 116.27. The former Indian captain is playing IPL 2021 for Chennai Super Kings (CSK), but he is unlikely to be available for the next edition. If his form remains poor this season, he might not play the next season.
#2 Harbhajan Singh (KKR)
India’s experienced spin bowler Harbhajan Singh has been one of the most successful bowlers in the country. He was associated with Mumbai Indians (MI) for a long time. However, in the 2018 edition, Bhajji played for Chennai Super Kings. In IPL 2020, Harbhajan Singh withdrew his name from the league citing personal reasons at the last minute. This season, KKR showed interest in the 40-year-old bowler and bought him during the IPL 2021 auction. There are already many spinners in KKR, it will be interesting to see how many bouts they get. Harbhajan is not active in competitive cricket in any form other than IPL. In such a situation, it seems very difficult to play in the next season.
#1 Imran Tahir (CSK)
South African veteran right-arm leg spin bowler Imran Tahir is known for his superb bowling. Imran has played for many teams in the IPL. Tahir had a great performance during the 2019 edition, playing for Chennai Super Kings. Tahir took 26 wickets in 2019. However, despite a great performance in IPL 2019, the 42-year-old struggled to get a place in the playing eleven in IPL 2020. He had the opportunity to play only three matches in 2020, in which he could take only one wicket. Thus, the possibility of Emraan Tahir getting a place in the CSK team this year seems unlikely as Moin Ali will be his favorite. Imran Tahir is unlikely to be selected by any franchise in the mega auction scheduled for next year. It is possible that Tahir is playing his last season in the IPL.
