From a probable winning situation to a disgusting loss, Knight Riders from Kolkata must be really kicking themselves for this horrendous blunder that they invited among. Up until the 15th over, what seemed like an easy victory, all due to their blunder, churned up as a loss and this might hurt them in the future big time.
Here are the three reasons amongst many, that made it scary for KKR:
1. Irresponsible Batting from the middle order.
Middle-order, the real spine of any batting order, collapsed surprisingly for KKR. Rahul Tripathi, Shakib, Andre Russell, Dinesh Kartik, Eoin Morgan, etc. All of them can be considered responsible for this blunder and it is because of them, KKR lost from a formerly comfortable match.
Cumulatively five of their middle-order made just 38 runs and in the span of 36 runs, they lost their 5 wickets. This is really worrying and this flat-faced problem does no justice at all. KKR must pray for the best in the future that they qualify for the Playoffs, cause if they miss qualifying, then this unwanted loss might be the biggest reason.
2. ‘Batsman’ Russell disappoints.
In the first innings, Russell did achieve something great by bowling a dream spell. He took 5 wickets in 2 death overs and made it all hurrah for KKR as Mumbai Indians’ batting line-up fell flat.
But, an excellent opportunity to put his team over the line, thrown into the vain by an utterly disappointing batting performance. He scored 9 from 15 balls which is abysmal considering his stature of a pinch power hitter.
3. Nitish Rana’s wicket.
Nitish Rana again played a fine knock and consecutively for the 2nd match, scores a half-century. He looks in great touch this time around and him alongside Gill, as opening pairs, does wonder. But, the timing of his wicket was unsubtle.
He fell victim to the last bowl of an “all-guns-blazing” spell by Rahul Chahar in which he took 4 wickets. It was probably the most important wicket that Chahar took and the way Rana threw his Wicket, was disappointing to say the least.
