IPL 2021: BCCI to facilitate 30,000 RT-PCR tests in the second phase

The Indian Premier League begins on 19th September in the UAE. During the second phase of the tournament, players are going to receive all the necessary medical attention inside their hotel bio-bubble only. None of the players will need to leave the bio-bubble for an emergency, nursing, rapid tests, or emergencies. The BCCI shared that the medical staff will facilitate 30,000 RT-PCR tests. This will apply to all the members involved in the league.

The Dubai-based medical staff has successfully arranged for sports medicine experts, treatment for players, and an air ambulance in the second phase of the tournament. All the medical staff will be accommodated in the same bio-bubble. All players will undergo testing every three days instead of the five that were followed last time. A 100-member multi-disciplinary team for appropriate COVID-19 management has been made available.

It is to be noted that Dr. Shajir Gaffar, CEO of VPS Healthcare (Dubai and the Northern Emirates), said, “Our team is completely equipped to take care of the medical needs of the IPL participants. She also shared that “With the second leg of the IPL and ICC T20 World Cup happening back-to-back, the UAE can solidify its pioneering position as a safe global sporting destination.”

The BCCI will also make sure that COVID-19 related appropriate behavior is followed throughout the tournament to curb the spread of the virus as much as possible.
