Former Royal Challengers Bengaluru bowler and South African legend Dale Steyn said that this might be the last season for David Warner in an ESPN Cricinfo interview with Daniel Vettori.
Speaking about the ongoing condition of the Sunrisers Hyderabad with Daniel Vettori, former bowler Dale Steyn said that “It’s strange that he isn’t a part of the playing eleven. It’s understandable if they want to change ownership of captaincy for the next season, and keep Kane [Williamson] there. But David is still a phenomenal batter and I would still keep him in the eleven. This might be the last time we see Warner in the Orange Army,” to the interviewer.
The Sunrisers Hyderabad management stripped David Warner off his captaincy and also sacked him from the playing XI for their match against Rajasthan Royals, the team has been having a tough start in the season, while the management gave captaincy to Kane Williamson, Warner was substituted for Mohammad Nabi who conceded 21 runs in the only over he bowled and scored just 17 runs off the bat, leading to heavy backlash from fans of David Warner and the Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Speaking in the interview, Dale Steyn talked about how Warner was an integral part of the team and how he had lead the team throughout the years, highlighting his batting performance, ability to advise other teammates and his fielding skills.
When asked if this seems like Warner’s last season for the Sunrisers Hyderabad, Dale Steyn said “I don’t know if David may have questioned some of the decisions, maybe when Manish Pandey was left out. Sometimes, the management doesn’t appreciate that, I guess,” said Steyn.
” The captain of the team also needs to take ownership of his squad and who’s going out on the field. Seems like there’s definitely something happening behind closed doors, [which] the public is not aware of.”
