KKR are nowhere near their potential and currently find themselves at No. 6 after 3 matches in IPL 2021. There are a lot of reasons that Pundits ascertain for KKR and out of them, a well-versed reason is Andre Russell’s struggling, “on and mostly off” form.
Michael Vaughan, former England captain on the other hand has sympathy for KKR. He feels that KKR is nothing but unlucky that a player of theirs, known for his firepower is struggling to get the job done for them.
“When you got player like Andre Russell, who has been a superstar, but on the field, when the ball is coming to him, he is always using his feet. He is someone who cannot go down. It’s a very clever and careful aspect which Eoin Morgan will have to manage,” Vaughan said.
He further said, “When he (Russell) is at his best, he is great. But when you see him on the field, and when is bowling, he appears to be struggling. While batting he is not taking the twos. He needed to take the twos in the 19th over. Because you want him back on strike. Very difficult to manage for Brendon McCullum (coach) and Eoin Morgan (Captain).”
“I think in modern-day cricket, you need 9-10 players in a team who are agile on the field. But when you see KKR on the field, they don’t look electric.
Vaughn called it off by saying, “It’s a difficult one. How can you leave at Russell? But when you look at him on the field, and when he is bowling. it’s a bad look for the team when you got a player who is struggling with his body.”
KKR lost to RCB by 38 runs in which a miserable performance from the team in every department was observed. KKR stands at no. 6 in the points table after 3 matches. They have no consecutively lost 2 matches against Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore.
