A dominating performance with the ball was followed by responsible knocks from KL Rahul and Chris Gayle as Punjab Kings crushed defending champions Mumbai Indians by 9 wickets in Chennai. With their second win of the season, Punjab also rose to the fifth spot in the points table.

Chasing 132, KL Rahul scored a responsible 52-ball 60* and was ably supported by Chris Gayle with his unbeaten 43 off 35. Earlier, Mohammed Shami and Ravi Bishnoi restricted Mumbai to 131 for 6 after Punjab invited them to bat first.

Rahul and Chris Gayle formed a match-winning partnership, to help their side to a win. Captain Rahul smashed an unbeaten knock of 60 runs in 52 balls, packed with three fours and three sixes.

Meanwhile, Gayle scored 43 in 35 balls, consisting of five fours and two sixes. Rahul Chahar took a wicket for MI, in an otherwise poor showing for their bowlers.

Earlier, Rohit Sharma scored a half-century to help MI up their innings at 131 for six in 20 overs. The MI skipper scored 63 runs off 52 balls, with five fours and two sixes.

Suryakumar Yadav also made a noteworthy contribution with 33 runs off 27 balls. Mohammed Shami and Ravi Bishnoi were on fire for Punjab, taking two wickets each.
