Shikhar Dhawan slammed a power-packed 49-ball 92 as Delhi Capitals defeated Punjab Kings by six wickets in Mumbai. Chasing a challenging 196, Dhawan singlehandedly set up the chase for Delhi which was later finished off by Marcus Stoinis (27 not out) and Lalit Yadav (12 not out) with 10 balls to spare.
Delhi Capitals (DC) openers Prithvi Shaw and Shikhar Dhawan scored at a brisk rate at the start of the innings to give a strong opening to DC in their pursuit of the 196-run target. Both Shaw and Dhawan continued their rich vein of form as they belted the Punjab Kings (PBKS) bowlers to all parts of the ground. Shaw, however, departed on 32 while Dhawan was still at the crease having scored his fifty. DC reached 99 runs in 10 overs, and with the likes captain Rishabh Pant still to make way into the middle, a strong finish beckoned at the end.
Marcus Stoinis blitz helped DC put a clinical finish at the end as Punjab Kings’ bowlers lost their direction entirely to gift a six-wicket win to DC. Shami and Meredith couldn’t handle the pressure as they gave away crucial runs in the middle-overs which put the game out of their grasp completely. Shaw, Dhawan, Pant, Stoinis all joined the run-fest to help DC overhaul the 196-run target and earn their second win of the tournament.
Delhi Capitals opener Shikhar Dhawan misses his 3rd century by just 8 runs. See how the Twitterati reacts on this incident:
