IPL 2023: Top 3 Fastest Bowlers To Take 100 Wickets In IPL

4 Min Read

T20 cricket is frequently referred to as “the bowlers’ graveyard,” yet the finest in the game find a way to silence even the most destructive bats.

In the shortest format, bowlers who not only control the flow of runs but also take wickets at regular intervals are essential.

In the IPL, 21 bowlers have claimed 100 or more wickets, with former CSK and MI spinner Dwayne Bravo topping the list (183).

Here are the three fastest bowlers to reach 100 IPL wickets:

#1 Kagiso Rabada

On April 13, 2023, Kagiso Rabada became the quickest bowler in IPL history to record 100 wickets. He took the wicket of Gujarat Titans opener Wriddhiman Saha to reach 100 IPL scalps.

Rabada broke Malinga’s long-held record of being the fastest bowler reach 100 IPL wickets. The South African bowler needed 64 innings to reach the mark, six less than Malinga.

The Johannesburg-born spinner made his IPL debut in 2017 for the Delhi Capitals and remained with them till 2021. He took 76 wickets in 50 matches for the Capitals over four seasons and is presently their second-highest wicket-taker (110), trailing only Amit Mishra.

Rabada joined the Punjab team last season and was their leading wicket-taker in the IPL 2022, taking 23 wickets at an economy rate of 8.45.

#2 Lasith Malinga

For over a decade, Sri Lanka’s great speed bowler held the record for being the fastest bowler to take 100 IPL wickets.

Lasith Malinga accomplished the feat during the Mumbai Indians’ IPL 2013 match versus Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) at Dharamshala.

In his 70th IPL innings, the yorker king removed Azhar Mahmood, Gurkeerat Singh Mann, and Praveen Kumar to conclude with scores of 3/39. Praveen Kumar was the Sri Lankan pacer’s 100th victim.

Despite playing his final season in 2019, Malinga is now the third-highest wicket-taker in the IPL (170 wickets). He appeared in all 122 of MI’s games over the course of nine seasons.

#3 Harshal Patel

During the match between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in IPL 2023 on Monday, April 10, Harshal Patel became the quickest Indian bowler to complete 100 wickets in the IPL.

Harshal took two wickets in the last over to end with figures of 4-0-48-2 in the Giants’ one-wicket defeat. Harshal Patel’s 100th IPL dismissal came with a low full ball that smacked into Mark Wood’s stumps.

The RCB medium pacer reached 100 IPL wickets in 79 innings, two fewer than Bhuvneshwar Kumar (81 innings), becoming the third fastest bowler to do so.

Harshal earned the Purple Cap in the IPL 2021 season after taking 32 wickets in 15 matches at an average of 14.34 and an economy rate of 8.14. He took 89 of his 101 IPL wickets for RCB, with the remaining 12 coming for the Delhi Capitals.
