Ambati Rayudu has criticized the Chennai Super Kings for their poor performance in IPL 2025. After CSK lost to Mumbai Indians by nine wickets at Wankhede Stadium, Rayudu, known as one of CSK’s biggest supporters, questioned whether the team could still make it to the playoffs.
Ambati Rayudu Slams CSK’s Batting Approach in IPL 2025
Talking about Chennai Super Kings’ performance in IPL 2025, Ambati Rayudu said their batting in the middle overs hasn’t matched the demands of modern T20 cricket.
CSK has used six different players in the top four spots, but none of the combinations have worked. They’ve now lost six out of their eight matches this season.

Their problems were clear again in the match against the Mumbai Indians at Wankhede Stadium. CSK scored only 48 runs in the powerplay and just 103 by the 14th over. Even though Ravindra Jadeja and Shivam Dube scored their first fifties of the season, CSK could only manage 176/5 in their innings.
Mumbai Indians easily chased down the target in under 16 overs, beating CSK by nine wickets. Rohit Sharma scored 76* and Suryakumar Yadav hit 68*.
After the loss, Ambati Rayudu criticized CSK for lacking energy and aggression. He said their batting no longer has the fearless mindset that once made them strong, and it will be tough for them to bounce back.
Ambati Rayudu, speaking on Star Sports after the match, said, “It was below-par batting. There was no intent in the middle overs. You can’t play that way in T20s anymore. You are taking a single and waiting for a loose ball next. That’s not the way. I felt there was no intent. People used to fear CSK’s batting because they used to come in with a lot of intent. They will have to step it up in the next few games.”
Can CSK Still Make The IPL 2025 Playoffs? Ambati Rayudu Has No Hope Left
After watching CSK lose six games and struggle with slow scoring, Rayudu said he doesn’t think they can turn things around this season. “I don’t see them coming back this season,” he added.
Now at the bottom of the points table, Chennai Super Kings will play their next match against another struggling side, Sunrisers Hyderabad, on April 25 at the M. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. SRH has won only two out of their seven games so far.
