Chasing 218, RR struggled to get going as the GT bowlers applied pressure throughout the innings. Despite a brief 48-run partnership between Sanju Samson and Shimron Hetmyer, RR’s chase never really gained momentum.
The turning point came in the 13th over when GT pacer Prasidh Krishna, who had conceded 12 runs in his first over, was brought back into the attack. Before the over, GT bowling coach Ashish Nehra provided tactical advice through a substitute.

On the second ball of the over, Krishna bowled a hard-length delivery angled into the off-stump. RR captain Sanju Samson, trying to create room and guide the ball to the third man, mistimed the shot and sent it straight to Sai Kishore at the edge of the circle. This key wicket of the RR opener shifted the momentum in favor of GT.
The right-arm pacer continued his strong performance, finishing with impressive figures of 3 for 24. Among his key wickets were the in-form West Indies batter, who scored a quick 52 off 32 balls, and Jofra Archer.

Earlier in the match, Sai Sudharsan was the standout performer with the bat for GT, scoring a fluent 82 off 53 balls. Supported well by the middle order, GT posted a strong total of 217. In reply, RR was bowled out for 159, falling short of the target. GT’s all-round effort with both bat and ball ensured a convincing win at home.
Looking ahead, GT will face Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on April 12, while RR will take on Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on April 13, hoping to bounce back from today’s loss.
