The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have received bad news for IPL 2025 as their star bowler, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, has injured himself.
RCB is currently playing against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the first match of IPL 2025 at Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
Veteran bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar was bought by Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) for INR 10.75 crore at the IPL 2025 mega auction.
He was expected to start in the RCB playing XI, but surprisingly, he wasn’t selected, and Rasikh Dar Salam, Josh Hazlewood, and Yash Dayal were chosen as the seamers.
Bhuvneshwar’s absence shocked fans, who started criticizing RCB for leaving him out. However, the team quickly provided an update.
RCB posted on their official social media account that Bhuvneshwar has a minor injury and will miss the match against KKR. They assured fans that he will recover soon and be back in the playing XI.
“Captaincy debut – RaPa has already kicked things off on a winning note! We’ll be chasing first in the season opener!,” the Royal Challengers Bengaluru wrote on X.
“Team News – we go with 2 spinners and 3 pacers. Salt, Liam, Tim and Hazlewood fill the overseas quota! Unfortunately Bhuvi misses out due to a minor injury. He’ll be back soon! @qatarairways | #PlayBold #ನಮ್ಮRCB #IPL2025 #KKRvRCB.”
After winning the toss, Rajat Patidar said they would aim to limit KKR’s score. He also shared his excitement about leading Royal Challengers Bengaluru. He said:
“We have decided to bowl first. The wicket looks decent. It is a hard surface. I think, bowling first, we will look to restrict them as early as possible and go for it.”
“It feels amazing to lead RCB. There are some great players in the squad. It is a great opportunity to learn from them. The preparation has been good. The last 10-15 days, we have been preparing well. The boys are feeling good. I am pretty much confused about the playing XI with the impact player rule. We are going with three pacers and two spinners.”
Meanwhile, KKR captain Ajinkya Rahane said he was honored to lead the Knight Riders and talked about their strong squad. He said:
“Feeling really good. First of all, it is an honor for me to lead this wonderful franchise. Really looking forward to this game and also the season.”
“Yeah, the core group remains the same. We played really good cricket last season and we want to continue the same this season as well. Weather is something you cannot control, so we want to play good cricket tonight.”
“Absolutely, everyone has settled in pretty quickly. There is nothing much to say or do, we have given them all the freedom to play their natural game and also play as a unit.”
“Yes, we were looking to field as well. We are going with a combination of 3 fast bowlers and 2 spinners.”
