Dewald Brevis may have missed a well-earned fifty, but he impressed fans with his debut knock for Chennai Super Kings. The young South African made his first appearance for the five-time champions on Friday (April 25) against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Chepauk.
Dewald Brevis Shines on Debut Despite Missing Fifty
CSK were in trouble early, losing three wickets in the powerplay when Brevis came in to bat. Mohammed Shami got Shaik Rasheed out for a golden duck on the first ball, and Harshal Patel later dismissed Sam Curran for 9.
In the final over of the powerplay, Pat Cummins removed Ayush Mhatre for 30, leaving CSK at 47/3. Dewald Brevis and Ravindra Jadeja tried to rebuild, but Jadeja fell for 21 to Kamindu Mendis.
Brevis batted well and looked set for a fifty, but a brilliant catch by Mendis ended his innings at 42 off 25 balls in the 13th over.
Brevis played a quick knock with one four and four sixes, including his famous no-look six. In the 12th over, he hit Mendis for three sixes. On the first ball, Mendis tossed it up on the leg stump, and Brevis made room to smash it over long-on without even looking at the ball.

Meanwhile, Kamindu Mendis took an amazing catch to get Dewald Brevis out. Brevis, playing his first game for Chennai Super Kings, got off to a great start. He scored 42 runs from just 24 balls, hitting four fours and four sixes.
Kamindu Mendis Steals the Show with Stunning Catch
In the 13th over, Sri Lankan player Kamindu Mendis took a brilliant catch to give Sunrisers Hyderabad an important wicket. Harshal Patel bowled a half-volley outside off stump, and Dewald Brevis hit it well towards long off.
It looked like the ball would go for a boundary, but Mendis had other plans. He dived fully to his left and caught the ball with both hands while still in the air.
Only a catch like that could’ve stopped that cameo from Brevis! 🤯
