He came to bat after Will Jacks finished his quick innings. Hardik got a lucky chance in the 13th over when bowler Vijaykumar Vyshak dropped an easy catch while Hardik was on zero runs.

Hardik made the Punjab Kings pay for that mistake by hitting the bowlers hard. He scored 26 runs from 15 balls, including two fours and two sixes.

Hardik Pandya Left in Disbelief

But in the 17th over, Marco Jansen bowled a delivery outside the off-stump. Hardik tried to hit it hard but only edged the ball, and it went to the wicketkeeper, Josh Inglis.

Mumbai Indians were surprised and disappointed after Hardik got out. In fact, even Hardik stood still for a few seconds, holding his bat on his head and showing his disappointment. The video of the same has been going viral on the internet. Watch it here:

Before the match, bowling legend Anil Kumble spoke to ESPNCricinfo and said he thinks Mumbai Indians will win against the Punjab Kings. He said:

I think Mumbai. Mumbai certainly with the kind of form and the kind of lineup that they have. And they have 10 international players. Naman Dhir is the 11th and he’s not far. I mean, he showed last game what he can do. And I think Mumbai has a really strong side.”

Tom Moody also praised Mumbai Indians during the same talk. He said other teams are afraid of the 5-time champions. He explained:

Yeah, well, the world’s opened up for them, hasn’t it? And as you quite rightly say, a couple of weeks ago, they were scrambling to think, is this going to be another year of lost opportunity, missed finals? So they’ve got into the top four, still with a chance of being in the top two.”

“So they’re a side that, you know, from an opposition point of view, you fear is a serious threat purely because of the depth of quality they’ve got, both with international and more in particular, their domestic talent is extraordinary compared to most other teams. But yeah, they’re playing the right cricket, the right brand of cricket and confident cricket at the right time.”
