GT vs MI Eliminator, IPL 2025: The Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in New Chandigarh hosted a thrilling IPL 2025 Eliminator on Friday, where Mumbai Indians (MI) defeated Gujarat Titans (GT) by 20 runs to reach Qualifier 2. They will now face the Punjab Kings on Sunday, June 1.
MI chose to bat first after winning the toss and got a great start with Rohit Sharma scoring a brilliant 81 off 50 balls. He was well supported by Jonny Bairstow (47), Suryakumar Yadav (33), and Tilak Varma (25), who all added important runs. In the last six overs, MI hit nine sixes, including three from Hardik Pandya in the final over, and ended with a strong total of 228/5.
Chasing 229, Gujarat Titans got off to a good start with a 64-run stand between Kusal Mendis and Sai Sudharsan after Shubman Gill fell in the first over. Mendis was out hit-wicket for 20 on debut, while Sudharsan played a strong knock of 80 from 49 balls, crossing 700 runs this season.
Washington Sundar scored 48 off 24 to keep GT in the chase, but Jasprit Bumrah dismissed him with a perfect yorker. MI’s impact player, Ashwani Kuma,r bowled tightly, and GT needed 45 from the last 3 overs. Trent Boult gave away only 12 in the 19th over.
With 24 needed off the last over, Richard Gleeson bowled despite an injury and gave away just 3 runs to seal the win for MI.
