IPL 2025: Punjab Kings (PBKS) new skipper Shreyas Iyer completely dominated Gujarat Titans (GT) bowler Prasidh Krishna in the 5th match of the IPL 2025 on Tuesday, March 25.
Shreyas Iyer Registers His Highest Score In Indian Premier League
Shreyas Iyer took on Prasidh Krishna aggressively, but in the same over, Gujarat Titans’ Rahul Tewatia stopped him from hitting a six at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Iyer made a strong impression on his captaincy debut for Punjab Kings with a brilliant batting display. Batting at number 3, he played an aggressive style of cricket, finishing with an unbeaten 97 runs. During his stellar knock, Shreyas Iyer smashed five fours and nine sixes in a fast-paced innings, leading his team to a huge total of 243/5.
Iyer shifted into full attack mode during the 17th over after Prasidh Krishna hit him hard on the ribcage with a short ball. Iyer quickly reacted to the painful hit by sending Krishna’s next ball sailing for a six-over wide long-on. On the very next ball, he hammered a four over backward point, followed by two back-to-back sixes to punish the pacer.
Rahul Tewatia’s Stunning Fielding Denies Iyer a Six
On the final ball of the over, Iyer went for another six, but Rahul Tewatia of Gujarat Titans made a stunning fielding effort on the boundary line to deny him.
Iyer hit Krishna’s delivery towards long-on, where Tewatia stretched as much as he could, caught the ball above his head, and threw it back into play.
The third umpire reviewed multiple replays of Tewatia’s effort before confirming everything was in order, and Shreyas Iyer was denied a six. Meanwhile, Prasidh Krishna ended up conceding 24 runs in that over.

Shashank Singh on denying Shreyas Iyer a ton in GT vs PBKS IPL 2025 clash
Iyer was expected to complete his century with 6 balls left, but Shashank Singh didn’t give him a chance to face. Shashank, retained by PBKS before the auction, hit 23 runs in the final over (4, 2, 4, 4, 1w, 4, 4), while Iyer could only clap as his teammate took charge.
Iyer’s 97 not out was his highest IPL score and the 4th highest in his T20 career. It’s also the third-highest score on a captaincy debut in IPL history, after Sanju Samson’s 119 and Mayank Agarwal’s 99*.
Speaking to the broadcasters during the mid-innings break, Shashank Singh shared that Iyer told him not to focus on his milestone and just play his shots. He said:
“Thank you so much Ravi Sir. Yes obviously it was a good cameo but looking at the way Shreyas was batting from the dug-out, that motivated me even more.”
“Let’s be honest. Shreyas from ball one told me, Shashank don’t be like I am getting a hundred. Just play your shots well. Kudos to him that he spoke to me before the last over.”
