Suresh Raina Predicts RCB Glory – “This Might Be Virat Kohli’s Year”: As IPL 2025 heads into its final stage, former Indian cricketer Suresh Raina has shown support for the in-form Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), saying they have a real chance to finally win their first IPL title after 18 years. Ahead of their important match against the Kolkata Knight Riders on Saturday (May 17), Raina said that RCB can win the trophy this year under the leadership of Rajat Patidar.
Despite having top-class players over the years, RCB has never won the IPL, and fans often joke about the team’s empty trophy cabinet.
IPL 2025: Suresh Raina Backs Virat Kohli’s RCB to Break 18-Year Title Drought
Things have turned around for RCB in IPL 2025. Their once-weak bowling attack is now a major strength, with Suresh Raina noting how they defended low scores like 150 and 136 at the usually high-scoring Chinnaswamy Stadium.
Raina also praised new captain Rajat Patidar for his fearless leadership, especially after RCB defeated CSK twice this season, including a big win at Chepauk.
Suresh Raina said on Star Sports Press Room, “There are strong chances because Royal Challengers Bengaluru is playing in a different league this year. They’ve defended scores like 150 and 136 at Chinnaswamy, and their bowling unit has stepped up. The new captain has beaten Chennai Super Kings twice-once in Chennai and again at home, which speaks volumes.”
Raina also pointed out that there’s a strong sense of belief, hunger, and unity in the RCB camp, which he feels can drive them to their ultimate goal. The former Indian batter added, “The dressing room is positive, and these are signs of a team that can go all the way.”
Tough Competition from MI, GT, and PBKS
Although Raina acknowledged that teams like Mumbai Indians, Gujarat Titans, and Punjab Kings are also performing well and are strong contenders for the IPL 2025 title, he feels this season could finally be RCB’s moment to break their long title drought.
Raina wrapped up by saying, “Yes, Mumbai Indians, Gujarat Titans, and Punjab Kings are also doing well, but this might finally be Virat’s year to lift the trophy after 18 years.”
Royal Challengers Bengaluru are in top form in IPL 2025, with 8 wins and 3 losses. They’re second on the points table with 16 points and can seal a playoff spot if they beat KKR on Saturday.
Captain Rajat Patidar has recovered from a finger injury and batted in the nets for 30 minutes without trouble. Team director Mo Bobat said, “Patidar had an injury to his hand… He’s practiced the last few days, and he’s going well.”
