Mumbai Indians (MI) batter Suryakumar Yadav reached 4,000 runs in the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Sunday. He achieved this milestone during MI’s IPL 2025 match against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at Wankhede Stadium.
Suryakumar Yadav Reaches 4,000 IPL Runs in Style
Suryakumar Yadav reached the 4,000-run milestone in just 2,714 balls during MI’s IPL 2025 match against Lucknow Super Giants, continuing his great form this season.
By surpassing players like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar now ranks third overall for the fastest to 4,000 runs, behind only AB de Villiers and Chris Gayle, who both reached it in 2,658 balls. Following Suryakumar are David Warner (2,809 balls) and Suresh Raina (2,881 balls).
The 34-year-old needed just 33 runs to reach the milestone and achieved it in style by hitting a boundary off Avesh Khan in the 13th over. Playing in his 160th IPL match (145 innings), Suryakumar now has two centuries and 26 half-centuries to his name, with a strike rate of over 146 – the highest among Indian players with 4,000 or more IPL runs. Globally, only AB de Villiers (151.68) and Chris Gayle (148.96) have better strike rates in the 4,000-run club.
Suryakumar Joins Elite Group of Mumbai Indians Run Scorers
In another achievement, Suryakumar surpassed MI legend Kieron Pollard’s run tally for the franchise. He is now part of an exclusive group, including Rohit Sharma and Pollard, to have scored over 3,000 runs for the Mumbai Indians. The Mumbai batter also reached 150 sixes in the IPL.
The 2025 season has been a record-breaking one for Mumbai star Suryakumar Yadav. Last year, he became only the second player after Sachin Tendulkar to score multiple centuries for MI in the IPL. He also remains one of the few players to surpass the 600-run mark in a single IPL season for the franchise.
Suryakumar’s IPL journey began in 2012 with MI, where he played just one match. After moving to Kolkata Knight Riders from 2014 to 2017, he developed his game, but it was his return to Mumbai in the 2018 mega auction that truly changed his career, making him one of the league’s most dangerous batters.
