IPL 2025: Faf du Plessis’s roadblock to becoming the next RCB captain is these three players. Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, and Rishabh Pant can emerge as challengers for RCB captaincy in the IPL 2025. All teams are preparing seriously for the mega auction of IPL 2025. This time, the auction will take place in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on 24 and 25 November. Meanwhile, ahead of this very auction, before this auction, all franchises submitted lists of retained players to the BCCI on 30th October.
While the teams announced several players as their retains, Royal Challengers Bangalore included only Virat Kohli, Rajat Patidar and Yash Dayal in the list of retained players. The remaining purse will be Rs 83 crore which the team will take into the mega auction. The team released its captain Faf du Plessis and now they will have a new captain in IPL 2025.
3. KL Rahul
India’s star batsman KL Rahul will be there in the auction pool. The reason why many people remained surprised was that Rahul was released by Lucknow Super Giants ahead of the mega auction. It should be remembered that Rahul led LSG to the IPL playoff in 2022 and 2023 but failed to lead his team to the playoffs in 2024, and he could also lead the team in IPL 2025.
Going by the set base price of Rs 2 crore, Rahul can be a good buy for the Royal Challengers Bangalore lineup, and with the star batsman having already been part of the franchise, he is all set to receive a big welcome back home in Bengaluru. It goes without saying that the 32-year-old has played 132 matches in the IPL and scored 4,683 runs and during this his average has been 45.47. He will hope if returns to RCB, he can get back to his rhythm.
2. Rishabh Pant
India’s wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant might also be another star that Royal Challengers Bangalore could add to their list and make him the skipper of the team further. The Delhi Capitals released Rishabh Pant before the mega auction. It is worthy of mention here that Rishabh Pant was leading the Capitals in IPL 2024, but they were unable to win the title.
However, if he makes it to RCB then obviously he will be a good candidate for the captain of RCB. It is to be noted that Pant has played 111 matches so far in IPL and has scored 3,284 runs, and in this, his average has been 35.31.
With Pant in the pool, many franchises would go for Pant and with Rs 83 crore in RCB purse, they will also go for Pant as being a suitable choice for the captain.
1. Virat Kohli
Virat Kohli, the former Royal Challengers Bangalore captain and Star India batsman, maybe in the serious running for the mantle of the captaincy of the franchise before IPL 2025. It was recently reported that Kohli would regain his throne as RCB captain since Faf du Plessis has been released.
The franchise has retained Kohli for Rs 21 crore, making him one of the most expensive players in the tournament. Secondly, even though they could not win the title under Kohli’s captaincy, RCB often considers themselves to be the title contenders and will try to break their drought this season.
But yes, it’s worth mentioning that Kohli has played so far 252 IPL matches and has scored 8,004 runs from those. His IPL average stands at 38.67 and sure he will be one of the franchise’s crucial players in IPL 2025.
