Jasprit Bumrah of the Mumbai Indians has gone through a rough start to the IPL 2026 season, not having recorded a single wicket in his last three matches; adding to his unwanted statistics, the first time he has not had a wicket in three consecutive T20 matches (since October 2023).
For a player such as Bumrah to not have a single wicket in three straight games is a shocking statistic, and the effect of this lack of wickets on the team as a whole can clearly be seen.
Fourth Instance of Bumrah Failing to Take Wickets in Three Consecutive Matches
Bumrah has not taken a wicket in three successive games this season. This is the fourth occasion when he has gone wicketless in three or more games in T20 cricket.
Before this, there was an instance when such a situation occurred in the IPL 2026. Furthermore, in international T20 cricket, he went through such situations in 2017 and 2018 as well.
No Wickets Taken in the Match Against the Rajasthan Royals
Bumrah was very costly for the team in the game against the Rajasthan Royals. He gave away 32 runs in three overs and could not dismiss a single batsman.
Young batsmen went on attack right away in the match, for example, Vaibhav Suryavanshi put all the pressure on the bowler by hitting six runs on the very first ball bowled. He (Bumrah) was not able to recover after that and has had the following results during the IPL 2026 season.
vs Kolkata Knight Riders: 4 overs, 35 runs, 0 wickets
vs Delhi Capitals: 4 overs, 21 runs, 0 wickets
vs Rajasthan Royals: 3 overs, 32 runs, 0 wickets
A Slump Despite a Stellar Career
Jasprit Bumrah has been a star performer for his career in T20 cricket as well. He has taken 345 wickets in his 273 games played in T20 format, and his economy rate is commendable too.
In the IPL too, he has always been the most dependable player of his side. He has taken more than 180 wickets in the league and helped his team win several matches through his bowling skills.
Effect on Mumbai Indians
As Jasprit Bumrah failed to take any wicket, the overall performance of his team suffered. Against Rajasthan, the Mumbai Indians lost the game miserably while batting at the lower run-rate.
But when the team’s best bowler cannot dismiss any batsmen, there will be mounting pressure on other bowlers to do their job and this is exactly what we have seen in this game.
Although this period of poor form should definitely be worrying, given Bumrah’s experience and skill level, one cannot deny that he is bound to recover soon. Mumbai Indians’ victory in the next few games will depend on how well he plays.
