The IPL 2026 season is finally reaching their last stage. The final match is set to be played between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Gujarat Titans (GT) in Ahmedabad. Both teams have won the trophy once before, so whoever wins this time will be lifting their second IPL title and that makes this final even more exciting.

But there’s more than a trophy on the line. Along with the title, there’s also a massive prize pool waiting for the teams. BCCI has announced a total prize pool of over ₹46.5 crore for IPL 2026. So let’s look at how much cash each team is going to take home.

How Much Prize Money Will the IPL 2026 Winner Get?

The winner of the IPL 2026 title will walk away with ₹20 crore as prize money. That team takes away this big amount whether it is Royal Challengers Bengaluru or Gujarat Titans that lifts the trophy on the final day. Both teams have experienced IPL success once and both are among the few to reach the final straight after winning the title in the previous season.

What Does the Runner-Up Team Get?

Even the losing finalist doesn’t go home empty handed. IPL 2026 runner-up will get Rs 13 crore. Gujarat Titans playing their third final in the last five seasons, Royal Challengers Bengaluru playing their fifth final overall and second final in a row. It will be interesting to see which team walks away with the winner’s cheque and which team has to settle for the runner’s up prize.

Prize Money for 3rd and 4th Place Teams

The two teams that make it to the playoffs but don’t make it to the final also get a slice of the prize money.

  • Rajasthan Royals, who lost in Qualifier 2, will get ₹7 crore and finished third.
  • Sunrisers Hyderabad finished fourth in the Eliminator exit and will receive ₹6.5 crore.

Teams Finishing 5th to 10th Get No Official Prize Money

Teams that do not make it to the top 4 will not get any official prize money from the BCCI. They still make money from other avenues such as sponsorships, broadcasting rights and ticket sales so it’s not like they walk away with nothing.

How Is the Prize Money Split Between Players and the Franchise?

As per the IPL rules, 50% of the prize money is given to the players and the other 50% is given to the franchise. Hence if a team wins the title, the players stand to gain directly by sharing ₹10 crore which is a pretty decent bonus on top of their regular match fees and salaries.

Orange Cap and Purple Cap Winners Also Get Cash Prizes

Individual award winners for the teams also receive cash prizes. And players winning Orange Cap (highest run-scorer), Purple Cap (highest wicket-taker) and other special awards can earn up to Rs 1 crore extra. And this is exactly what makes the race for these caps interesting till the last match of the season.

IPL 2026 Prize Money Full List

Award Prize Money
Champion (Winner) ₹20 Crore
Runner-Up ₹13 Crore
3rd Place (Qualifier 2 loser) ₹7 Crore
4th Place (Eliminator loser) ₹6.5 Crore

Purple Cap Winner ₹10 Lakh

How Much Has the Winner’s Prize Money Grown Since 2008?

When IPL started back in 2008 and 2009, the winning team only got ₹4.8 crore which feels like a small number now. Here’s how it has grown over the years:

  • 2008–2009: ₹4.8 crore
  • 2010–2013: ₹10 crore
  • 2014–2015: ₹15 crore
  • 2016 onwards: ₹20 crore

There was one exception during the COVID-hit 2020 season, the prize money was temporarily cut down to ₹10 crore. But from 2021 right up to now, the winner has been consistently getting ₹20 crore every single year.

Now all eyes are on the final will it be Royal Challengers Bengaluru or Gujarat Titans who takes home the trophy and the ₹20 crore cheque? It’s going to be one heck of a game.
