IPL Mega Auction 2022 may be held in Bengaluru or Kochi, according to reports

According to people familiar with the situation, the IPL 2022 mega auction would most likely take place in the first or second week of February 2022.

“It will most likely happen in the first or second week of February. The IPL auction would take place in either Bengaluru or Kochi “ANI quoted a source as saying.

“It is too early to talk on this,” the source said when questioned about plans to stage IPL 2022 in India during COVID-19 and whether there is a contingency plan to stage the league in the UAE.

Prior to the 2019 season’s big auction, all of the existing IPL franchises released their list of retained players last month.

Some of the prominent names that the existing clubs have agreed to keep for IPL 2022 include MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Sunil Narine, Andre Russell, and Glenn Maxwell.

Meanwhile, the two new IPL franchises, Lucknow and Ahmedabad, have a budget of Rs. 33 crore to select three players from the pool before the super auction.

Existing teams that chose to keep players would be deducted 16 crore for the first player, 12 crore for the second player, 8 crore for the third player, and 6 crore for the fourth player, for a total deduction of 42 crore.

They can’t pick more than two Indian players (capped or uncapped) for the two new franchises, Lucknow and Ahmedabad. They are only allowed to select one abroad player and one uncapped Indian player.

 

Aside from RPSG, which was awarded the Lucknow franchise, the Irelia Company Pte Ltd (CVC Capital Partners) was awarded the Ahmedabad franchise (for INR 5,625 crores.
