The 19th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is approaching the midway stage, and much of each team’s success has been driven by how its captains have performed. Punjab Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore, for instance, currently sit first and second on the points table. That said, six captains haven’t quite lived up to expectations with their performances so far this season.

Rishabh Pant

Lucknow Super Giants skipper Rishabh Pant, the costliest signing in IPL history, has struggled to make an impact with the bat this season. He has scored 147 runs from six innings in as many matches, with an unbeaten 68 against SRH being the lone standout knock. Apart from that effort, he has failed to deliver in the other five innings. LSG currently sit ninth on the points table, managing just two wins from their six games while losing four.

Ruturaj Gaikwad

IPL 2026 has been a tough outing so far for Chennai Super Kings skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad. Leading the side while also opening the batting, he’s expected to anchor the innings, but runs have been hard to come by. Gaikwad has scored only 82 runs in six innings, averaging 13.66. His struggles at the top have affected the team’s starts and are reflected in their results. CSK are currently placed eighth on the table, with two wins and four defeats from six matches.

Ajinkya Rahane

Kolkata knight riders captain Ajinkya Rahane has failed to impress the fans and franchise as well. He comes to open with fin allen as opener batsman where got two ducks in this season. Meanwhile, his team, the Kolkata knight riders are going through the worst season they could ever have. Rahane, who has come under scrutiny for some questionable captaincy calls, has managed 152 runs across seven innings in as many matches.

Hardik Pandya

Hardik Pandya’s performance has been disappointing in this season so far. He is not in good form with the bat and ball. Hardik has managed only 96 runs from five innings, averaging 24. He hasn’t made much impact with the ball either, picking up just three wickets in those outings. His dip in form has reflected on the team’s results, with the Mumbai Indians currently placed seventh on the table after two wins and four defeats in six matches.

Riyan Parag

The Rajasthan Royals are performing so well this season. Meanwhile, their captain, Riyan Parag, is not in good form. He made 61 runs out of 6 innings in 6 matches. Also, he is not that effective with the ball as well. RR is performing well because their opening duo, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Yashasvi Jaiswal, are leading from the front. Most importantly, their fast bowlers, Nandre Burger and Jofra Archer, are doing pretty well for the team.

Axar patel

Delhi Capitals Axar Patel, aka ‘Bapu’, is not in good form. DC also made a good start by winning starting matches, But after two wins, Delhi has lost 3 out of 4 matches while winning just 1 match, which is scary for the management. Meanwhile, if we talk about Captain Axar patel has made just 31 run in 5 innings out of 6 matches he played, and he took 6 wickets in 6 innings.
