IPL Playoffs 2025: Four teams, Gujarat Titans (GT), Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Mumbai Indians (MI) have secured their place in the IPL 2025 playoffs. Now everyone’s eyes are on the top 2 finish, as the same teams will compete in Qualifier 1.

The team which remains in the top 2 will directly qualify for the final in the first qualifier. The team which loses this match will get another chance in Qualifier 2, where it will face the winner of the Eliminator match. Eliminator is a match in which the 3rd and 4th positioned teams face each other, and the loser has to be eliminated from the tournament.

GT are currently at the top of the points table and their net run rate is also very good. They have two remaining matches, LSG and CSK, both in Ahmedabad. If both win, they will be directly at the top without any competition, with 22 points. If they win just one match, their rank can be 3rd or even 2nd on 20 points, depending on whether RCB and PBKS win both their matches or not. If both teams win their matches, it may be difficult for GT to remain in the top 2. But even if they lose both the matches, under some conditions GT will remain in the top 2, like RCB’s defeat in the last matches or PBKS’s victory over Mumbai Indians.

Royal Challengers Bangalore (17 points, NRR 0.482)

RCB also has two remaining matches – both in Lucknow, against SRH and LSG. PBKS are also at 17 points and their remaining matches are against DC and MI in Jaipur. The difference in net run rate between the two teams is very less, so the result of each match matters a lot.

If both matches are won, only RCB or PBKS will be able to make it to the top 2. RCB’s fixtures are a bit easier as they are playing against SRH and LSG while PBKS have to face tough competition.

If GT wins one match and loses one, then it is possible for both RCB and PBKS to finish in the top 2 if both win their remaining matches. If GT loses both matches, then both RCB and PBKS can easily come in the top 2 if at least one of them wins their matches.

If RCB loses both its matches, it will be difficult for them to finish in the top 2, because GT will have more points ahead of them and PBKS or MI can surpass them. Similarly, if PBKS loses both matches, then Mumbai Indians will come ahead of them.

Mumbai Indians (16 points, NRR 1.292)

Mumbai Indians do not have any chances in their hands. Their last match is against Punjab Kings on 26 May in Jaipur. By then GT, RCB and PBKS will have increased their points so much that it will be difficult for Mumbai to come in the top 2.

Mumbai Indians can come in the top 2 only if only one team among these teams is able to score more than 18 points and MI wins its match against PBKS, then they too will reach 18 points.
