IPL Records and Statistics: Individual Batting Records for the Fastest Fifties

6 Min Read

The Indian Premier League is the most-watched T20 franchise league. 15 times as of this writing. With eight initial franchises in India, the IPL began to play in 2008. High-scoring matches are the norm in the IPL. Thus, the wickets must be flat and conducive to batting. It’s not easy for teams to come back from a big deficit in the IPL because of how quickly the game can turn in a matter of overs. Occasionally, a batter can shift gears at an extraordinary rate, making it impossible for the fielding team to stem the tide of runs. Over the years, fans have witnessed countless record-setting half-centuries and brilliant innings from their favourite players in the Indian Premier League.

Let’s check out the five fastest fifties in IPL history:

Pat Cummins – 56 Runs on 14 Balls

During the 14th game of the 2022 IPL season, Pat Cummins set a new record for the Indian Premier League. He hit a half-century off only 14 balls while playing for Kolkata Knight Riders against Mumbai Indians (MI). Australia’s Test captain had an incredible batting performance on this day, going undefeated on 56 runs off of 15 balls (four fours and six sixes).

In the 2014 edition of the Indian Premier League, Yusuf Pathan had one of the best Twenty20 performances. Kolkata Knight Riders needed 161 runs in 15.2 overs to move up the points table and secure two playoff berths. During his entire at-bat, Yusuf scored 72 runs off of just 22 balls, reaching the 50-run mark in just 15 of those. With Yusuf Ali’s unrelenting hitting, KKR was able to get their goal in 14.2 overs and secure second place.

Sunil Narine – 54 Runs on 15 Balls

Sunil Narine got to fifty against RCB IN 2017 at M. Chinnaswamy stadium in the same amount of time as the second-fastest fifty in the history of the IPL. With the help of four sixes and six fours, he got to 50 in 15 balls. This was one of the best innings of the IPL, and it was played by a bowler who switched roles and became an aggressive opener. He broke up the RCB bowling line with his cruel batting. In the end, he scored 54 runs off 17 balls in that match, winning the game for KKR.

Suresh Raina – 87 Runs on 16 Balls

Raina’s innings in the IPL 2014 qualifiers might end up being the highest score in IPL history that didn’t reach 100. CSK required 227 runs to make the final. Because of CSK’s 100 runs scored during the advantage, KXIP was disadvantaged. A whopping 87 of those 100 runs were accounted for by Raina. That ball, the first of the seventh over, effectively ended his team’s hopes. To get to 50, Raina needed 16 balls. All told, he hit 12 fours and six sixes. CSK reached 202/7 after 20 overs. A 24-run margin defeated CSK.

Ishan Kishan – 84 Runs on 16 Balls

During the group stage match of the 2021 Indian Premier League that took place in Abu Dhabi, Ishan Kishan struck six sixes against Sunrisers Hyderabad. The southpaw started hitting the bowlers from the first delivery, which contributed to him scoring a 16-ball half-century in the game. Kishan scored 84 runs off 32 balls before falling victim to the rising star Umran Mallik. Umran Mallik was just a youngster at the time. Even though they won the match by 42 runs, Michigan could not advance to the playoffs since they needed to win the match by a margin of more than 150 runs to qualify.
