In a world where many contemplate early retirement by the age of 50, Ekta Vishnoi, a senior woman bureaucrat in Delhi, defies conventional wisdom by demonstrating that age is no barrier to achieving fitness milestones. Her remarkable dedication and hard work have propelled her to the pinnacle of powerlifting, showcasing that age is merely a number.
Ekta Vishnoi, Deputy Director General at the Sports Authority of India, has not only made her mark in the realm of fitness but has now etched even grander achievements in the arena of powerlifting. She recently clinched multiple medals and shattered records at the National Senior Powerlifting Championship held in Hyderabad.

At the age of 50, Vishnoi secured a silver medal in the deadlift category with an impressive lift of 165kg, alongside a bronze medal overall, showcasing outstanding lifts of 132.5kg in squat, 70kg in bench press, and 165kg in deadlift. Moreover, her lifts shattered all records in the Master 2 category during the competition.
Prior to this feat, Vishnoi had already made significant strides in powerlifting, securing a gold medal in the national masters powerlifting championship, as well as gold and silver medals in the Commonwealth Powerlifting Championship and Asian Powerlifting Championship 2022. Her outstanding achievements earned her a certificate of honour from Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in 2023.
Notably, Vishnoi’s influence extends beyond her prowess as an athlete; she excels as an administrator as well. As an Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer of the 1999 batch, she currently serves as the Mission Director of the Fit India Movement, a Government of India initiative aimed at fostering a healthier nation, and oversees the esteemed Khelo India Scheme.

Her aspirations now soar even higher as she sets her sights on representing India and clinching medals at the World Masters Powerlifting Championship scheduled to be held in South Africa in October this year.
