Italy made history by securing their first Davis Cup title since 1976 with a commanding 2-0 victory over Australia on Sunday in Malaga, Spain.

The Italians had secured their spot in the final by overcoming Novak Djokovic’s Serbia on Saturday. Matteo Arnaldi, demonstrating unwavering determination, kick-started the final by clinching a hard-fought 7-5, 2-6, 6-4 win against Alexei Popyrin. Arnaldi dedicated this significant win to his girlfriend’s recently deceased father, expressing, “I think it was one of the most important matches of my life. I don’t know what to say.”

Arnaldi’s victorious performance paved the way for Jannik Sinner to seal the deal with an emphatic 6-3, 6-0 win over Alex de Minaur. Sinner’s display left the Australian with minimal options, preventing the tie from extending to a deciding doubles match.
