Germany beat Spaletti’s Italy at Signal Iduna Park in the second leg of the quarterfinal on Thursday after winning 2-1 in Milan’s San Siro in the first leg.
Donnarumma had already conceded a penalty, which was scored by Joshua Kimmich of DFB-Team after Alessandro Buongiorno had fouled Tim Kleindienst, and he was responsible for a disgraceful second.

He walked roughly eight yards off his line after tipping Kleindienst’s header over the bar and arguing with his teammates.

With Donnarumma out of position, Jamal Musiala guided a quick corner taken from the right by Kimmich into the open net to give Germany the lead.
When Gli Azzurri lost control of the ball while trying to play out from the back, Kleindienst pounced on a header from Kimmich’s cross for the captain’s third goal involvement of the evening, making the aggregate score 5-1. Which meant the tie was almost over and now it was getting into a humiliation zone for the Italians.
Italy bounced back in the second half
However, Italy bounced back in the second half meaning the match was far from done.
Moise Kean, a former Everton striker, gave Italy two goals back, first with a crisp finish into the bottom corner and then afterwards with a Giacomo Raspadori assist.

The first Italian goal was gifted just after half-time by Leroy Sane, as the German gave an inaccurate back-pass to Joshua Kimmich, who couldn’t control it and Moise Kean was at the right place to capitalize on the mistake and get a goal back. The goal instilled a fighting spirit in the Italians who turned on the gas after that goal. Kean scored again in the 69th minute to make the aggregate score 5-3.
The tie changed in the 73rd minute
The tie changed in the 73rd minute, as the referee had awarded a penalty to Italia as Di Lorenzo was brought down by Schlotterbeck but later got turned around as the VAR intervened. After that close call, Nagelsmann introduced changes to see the match out.
However, Maximilian Mittelstadt was deemed to have handled the ball in the fifth minute of injury time, and Raspadori scored the penalty to give Italy a 3-3 score for the evening. But it was just too late to get the tie equaliser.
Road Ahead
Germany won 5–4 overall, as Italy was unable to score another goal that would have forced extra time. They have advanced to the semi-finals for the first time in the Nations League, and they will host Portugal in June.
