Jamie Overton Ruled Out Of ENG vs WI ODI Series With Finger Fracture

England allrounder Jamie Overton is out of the rest of the One Day International (ODI) series against the West Indies after breaking his right little finger during the first ODI at Edgbaston.

Jamie Overton Injury Details

There was a moment of terror for the 31-year-old paceman who injured himself while trying to take a catch off Keacy Carty’s big shot, and it unfolded on Overton’s second ball of the match. He went straight off to have it treated after the incident. Initially, he was told he had dislocated, but the scan later on showed he had fractured.

Overton showed his toughness even with an injury with his return to the field with his finger bandaged. He then went and took a match-winning spell with 3 important wickets and England’s best bowling figures of 3 for 22 in 5.2 overs. He sent Roston Chase, Matthew Forde, and Gudakesh Motie back to the pavilion.

No Jamie Overton Replacement in ODI Squad

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has officially stated that Jamie Overton will not be replaced in the team. England will instead use available reserves:

Overton will now undergo a rehabilitation period under the guidance of England’s medical staff.

Upcoming Fixtures ENG vs WI Series

2nd ODI: Sunday in Cardiff

3rd ODI: Tuesday at The Kia Oval

1st T20I: Friday in Chester-le-Street

Jamie Overton’s absence will be a big blow for England, particularly after his fine all-round show in the first match. His potential to provide attacking short-pitched bowling and make contributions with the bat, too, will be felt when he is missing as the team hopes to keep the momentum going in the remaining matches.

Jamie Overton’s loss with a fractured finger is a turning point in England’s white-ball campaign against the West Indies. Although England has enough depth in their bowling line-up, replacing Overton’s dynamic value will not be an easy task. Fans will now eagerly wait to see who fills his shoes as England continues its ODI and T20I series.
