Japan Plans Rule ISU World Figure Skating Championships 2025 With Strong Field 

Japan is leaving no stone unturned to put on a full display of their strength in numbers at the ISU World Figure Skating Championships 2025 in Boston.  The championships become crucial as countries’ quotas for the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic Winter Games will be at stake.

Japan is leaving no stone unturned to put on a full display of their strength in numbers at the ISU World Figure Skating Championships 2025 in Boston.  The championships become crucial as countries’ quotas for the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic Winter Games will be at stake.

Japanese nationals champions Kagiyama Yuma and Sakamoto Kaori will headline the country’s squad for next year’s ISU World Figure Skating Championships, as announced by the Japan Skating Federation.

The  ISU World Figure Skating Championships 2025 will be held from 24-30 March competition in Boston. 

“I’m just really happy I made the team,” reigning three-time women’s world champion Sakamoto Kaori said a night after winning the Japanese nationals for the fourth successive year.

“The allocations for the Olympics will be decided so I want to be at my absolute best. I’ll do everything I can to show how strong Japan are.

Kagiyama will be accompanied in the men’s singles by Sato Shun and Tsuboi Tatsuya at the World Figure Skating Championships 2025. The women’s skaters apart from Sakamoto to feature at the event are Chiba Mone and Higuchi Wakaba.

Former world champions Miura Riku/Kihara Ryuichi, Nagaoka Yuna/Moriguchi Sumitada and Shimizu Sae/Honda Lucas Tsuyoshi were named for the pairs event at the World Figure Skating Championships 2025.

Ice dancers Yoshida Utana and Morita Masaya were selected following the conclusion of the Japan Figure Skating Championships on Sunday.

The JSF also unveiled their field for the Four Continents in Seoul to be held from 18-23 February. They were:

  • Men – Tsuboi, Miura Kao, Tomono Kazuki
  • Women – Higuchi, Chiba, Matsuike Rino
  • Pairs – Miura/Kihara, Nagaoka/Moriguchi
  • Ice dance – Yoshida/Morita, Tanaka Azusa/Nishiyama Shingo
