Joao Fonseca breaks Rafael Nadal’s record at French Open 2025

Joao Fonseca is having a dream debut at the French Open 2025. The young Brazilian tennis star has now made it to the third round after a tough win against French player Pierre-Hugues Herbert. The second-round match was full of ups and downs, with both players fighting hard, but Fonseca held his nerve and won two back-to-back tiebreak sets to seal the win.

In the first round, Fonseca had strong support from the crowd, but this time the atmosphere was different as Herbert was playing in front of his home fans. The crowd was fully behind the Frenchman, but Fonseca didn’t let that affect him. He stayed focused, played smart tennis and continued to stay aggressive. He had an impressive 77% success rate on his first serve and managed to break Herbert’s serve five times during the match.

The most important moment came in the third set when Fonseca got an early break and didn’t let go of the lead. He finished the match in straight sets and created history. With this win, Fonseca has now become the youngest player ever to reach the third round at Roland Garros, breaking the previous record held by 14-time French Open champion Rafael Nadal.

This is not the first record Fonseca has broken in this tournament. In the first round, he defeated Hubert Hurkacz with a dominant scoreline of 6-2, 6-4, 6-2. That win made him the second youngest player in history to win a main draw match at Roland Garros. His fast footwork, strong forehands and fearless playing style have already impressed fans and experts.

Even though he’s new to the ATP circuit, Fonseca is already pulling in huge crowds. His confident style and never-give-up attitude have made him one of the most exciting young players to watch right now. Many believe he could be one of the future stars of men’s tennis.

Fonseca is currently ranked #54 in the ATP rankings and is placed #29 in the live ATP race. His next challenge will be against either Jack Draper or Gael Monfils. The winner of that match will face Fonseca on Saturday for a place in the Round of 16.
