About John Cena

Only two guys in the history of professional wrestling have ever accomplished such a remarkable feat: Ric Flair and John Cena (according to WWE lore, at least).

The self-described “Face That Runs the Place” has earned John “Bradshaw” Layfield’s preferred moniker, “Big Match John,” and secured his place in the (WWE) record books. Despite the fact that his most recent championship reign ended at Elimination Chamber, it seems certain that he will win it again and beat Flair’s fictitious record in the process.

Let’s compare Cena’s most recent spectacular encounter with Styles to the rest of his significant title victories from Wrestle Mania 21 to the present in honour of his “historic” 16th global championship. It’s reasonable to assume JBL is not among the great competitor’s John Cena has faced during his career.

There have been a few notable fights between them, like a “I Quit” match at Judgement Day in 2005 and a parking lot brawl at The Great American Bash in 2008. However, most of their contests were forgettable, including their debut title fight at Wrestle Mania 21. At that time, Cena was a rising star who had little prior experience competing in important matches. JBL, on the other hand, was not recognised for competing in mat classics but rather for repeatedly barely holding onto his championship.

Fans often recall Cena striking JBL with an Attitude Adjustment to win at Wrestle Mania 21. Since the match itself wasn’t very noteworthy, it is usually forgotten. It wasn’t exactly a poor match as a glorified television main event, but it lacked the unique spark needed to make it a match worthy of Wrestle Mania. Unlike JBL, Edge ranks among John Cena’s top-tier in-ring competitors throughout history. However, not every one of their meetings was a masterpiece, as their WWE Championship bout at Royal Rumble 2006 demonstrated.

John Cena’s Game

Edge should have been a celebrity after his epic WWE championship wins at New Year’s Revolution three weeks before. It did, in a sense, but what fans sometimes overlook is the fact that his first outing with the strap was unremarkable. Edge was never shown as a danger to Cena over the three-week period leading up to their match at Royal Rumble, and when they finally faced off, it was obvious that Cena was the better Superstar. It’s unclear why the Royal Rumble contest itself led to such a lacklustre event, and it’s not like Cena winning the belt back was a momentous occasion. The only good thing about their match was that Cena had Edge tap out, which was disappointing.
