On Jonathan Amaral’s left arm, there’s a tattoo of a door opening into the galaxy. For him, it’s more than just body art it’s a symbol of his journey from a simple childhood to becoming one of India’s most popular esports athletes. His story feels like a dream that keeps unfolding.
During a recent chat, Jonathan spoke about his travels abroad, including a trip to Austria for Formula 1, his thrill-filled skydiving adventure in Dubai, and his love for luxury shoes and watches things he never imagined he could afford so easily. This life is far from the modest home in Bandra, Mumbai, where he grew up.
“Right now, I feel like I am living in a dream,” says Jonathan, who is only 22 but already considered one of the best BGMI players in India.
Childhood Passion Turned Career

Jonathan’s love for gaming began when he was just a kid. His mother always pushed him to focus on studies, but his father was his first mentor and biggest supporter. His dad, who owned an internet and cable business, encouraged him to aim higher in gaming.
“My dad would say, if I got five or six kills, I needed to aim for fifteen or twenty. He always wanted me to push harder,” Jonathan recalls.
Although Jonathan was good at studies and even dreamed of becoming a pilot one day, gaming slowly took over his life. He started with consoles and shifted to mobile games, where shooting games became his favorite. When he discovered PUBG, his skill level surprised even his friends, who stopped playing with him because he was just too good.
That was the beginning of his esports career.
Rise in Esports
Jonathan’s early years in esports were filled with fun and curiosity. He also loved playing football and hockey, and even represented his school, St. Stanislaus High, in tournaments. But as India’s esports scene began to grow around 2019, Jonathan realized gaming could be more than just a hobby.
At first, he faced criticism, with some calling him a “hacker” because of how sharp his gameplay was. Instead of letting that break him, he used it as fuel. To prove himself, he launched his YouTube channel and introduced his famous line, “Hacker or wot?” This catchphrase, combined with his talent, helped him grow a loyal fan base.
Soon, Jonathan Amaral joined professional teams and became the face of GodLike Esports. He went on to win major tournaments, MVP titles, and set records like scoring 16 kills in a single BGMI tournament, the maximum possible.
Hard Work Behind the Fame

Many fans see the glamour, but Jonathan’s success comes from strict discipline. His daily routine is packed with practice and streaming. He usually wakes up in the afternoon, plays six to seven matches for training, then streams for hours late into the night.
“I play, practice drills, then stream until 3 in the morning. At first, it was tough, but now it’s just part of my life,” he says.
To keep his focus sharp, Jonathan prioritizes rest. Sometimes he sleeps 15–16 hours at a stretch, knowing that proper recovery is key to staying at his best as a mobile gamer.
Family Support and Sacrifices

When preparing for tournaments, Jonathan often stays at the GodLike boot camp near Mumbai, where players live and train together. But no matter how busy he is, his family remains his anchor.
His mother follows his matches closely, even keeping a notebook where she records his performances, kills, and team scores. “My mom tracks everything about my games,” Jonathan says proudly.
Family conversations often revolve around his progress, advice, and encouragement. Despite his packed schedule, Jonathan values these small moments whenever he gets time with them.
Giving Back to His Parents
One of Jonathan’s proudest achievements has been giving back to his parents. He gifted them an apartment in Bandra West and even surprised his father with his dream car.
“I can buy things for myself anytime, but what matters most to me is fulfilling my parents’ dreams first,” he shares.
The tattoo on his arm, telling the story of his journey, is another reminder of where he comes from and why he continues to push forward.
Living the Dream, Staying Grounded

Today, Jonathan Amaral is more than just a gamer. He’s an icon for India’s esports community, with millions of followers on YouTube and Instagram. Yet, he remains humble, staying connected to his roots, family, and even his pet dog Hulk, who gives him comfort when life gets overwhelming.
For Jonathan, gaming isn’t just a career. It’s his passion, his joy, and the door that opened up a galaxy of opportunities.
