Former England captain Jos Buttler gave a strong statement about India’s fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah. He said that in the upcoming 5-Test series against England, Bumrah will be the biggest name in India’s squad.
“Jasprit Bumrah is the biggest name in that touring squad” – Jos Buttler
Bumrah was India’s Test vice-captain in the last series against Australia and also led the team in two matches of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. But in the upcoming England series, he will not have any leadership role.
According to reports, Bumrah himself decided to step away from the leadership role this time. Team sources also said that he will play only 3 out of the 5 Tests against England. It is still not clear in which matches he will be included.
“His bowling style is very different” – Buttler on the podcast

In an episode of the ‘For the Love of Cricket’ podcast, Jos Buttler spoke with Stuart Broad and shared details about Bumrah’s bowling style. He said:
“I don’t think anyone in that touring team is bigger than Jasprit Bumrah. When you face him, the angles he creates are very difficult. His run-up and bowling action are both very different.”
“He releases the ball from so close that it feels faster than it really is. His delivery point is almost a foot or more closer than the average bowler.”
“When Bumrah bowls, the batsman gets stuck” – Buttler’s analysis

Buttler also said that as a right-handed batter, Bumrah’s deliveries always felt like they were coming in. But from that angle, he could also beat you on the outside, and that puts the batter in a bad position.
“He creates situations where the batter gets squared up and becomes an easy target. You face such superstar bowlers in international cricket. England will have to play really well against him if they want to win the series.”
“England would want Bumrah to miss a few matches” – Stuart Broad
Stuart Broad also gave an important point about Bumrah. He said that England would hope Bumrah doesn’t play all 5 Tests, because if he does, he will take a lot of wickets.
“Jasprit Bumrah is a bowler to watch. And England surely wouldn’t want him to play all five matches. If he does, he will take a huge number of wickets, no doubt.”
Bumrah already has a strong record in England
Bumrah has played 9 Test matches in England so far and has taken 37 wickets. His bowling average is 26.27, economy rate is 2.72, and strike rate is 57.8.
