Khelo India Winter Games 2026: Launch Date, Sports, Full Detail

The Khelo India Winter Games 2026 are scheduled to be held from January 20 to 27, featuring a wide range of winter sports disciplines and bringing together athletes from various States and Union Territories across the country.

As in the previous edition, this year, too, the Khelo India Winter Games will be held at two venues: Ladakh and Jammu and Kashmir. While events in Ladakh will be held at NDS Stadium, Guphuk Pond, LSRC Army Rink, Kangdoori Phase 1, Golf Course Club will host the events in Gulmarg, Jammu and Kashmir.

This will be the sixth edition of the Khelo India Winter Games in which six major sports are set to feature, including a significant debut for figure skating.

Over 1,200 participants, including 700+ athletes and 113 technical officials will grace this edition of the Winter Games. A total of 136 medals are up for grabs across all disciplines.

Khelo India Winter Games 2026: Featuring Sports

Ice Sports (Leh): Ice Hockey, Speed Skating (Short & Long Track) and Figure Skating

Snow Sports (Gulmarg): Ski Mountaineering, Alpine Skiing, Snowboarding and Nordic Skiing.

This is the second Khelo India event of this year following the Khelo India Beach Games that was held in Daman and Diu.

The Winter Games are part of the Khelo India initiative of the government to promote sports at the grass-root level and nurture budding talents. Launched in 2020, the Khelo India Winter Games has helped promote the winter sports across the length and breadth of the country.

The Games follow a team championship format, where medals earned by individual athletes or teams contribute to the overall tally of their respective state, Union Territory or institutions.

While Jammu and Kashmir won the overall title in the first three editions, the the Indian Army and Ladakh won the next two editions respectively.
